The Biology Place is a collaborative effort of the Peregrine Publishers, Inc. staff, a company based in Wakefield, Mass., and a team of freelance contributors. The team of college and secondary biology educators are led by Neil Campbell.
This site is a subscription-based Web resource for teachers and students. Subscriptions range in price based based on the duration of the subscription. An individual subscription starts as low as $10. Educators can choose to include student access with their subscription. See the Customer Center at the site for full details.
The Homepage introduces the viewer to topics that include: chemistry, cells, genetics, evolution, plants, animals and ecology. Each topic area contains a faculty affiliate, learning activities, research news, ˘ best of the web, and Scientific American connection.
This website not only provides teachers Learning Activities on the various topics but also ties in current publications to the various topics. The Learning Activities provided for each topic utilize other web sites resources to enhance the lessons provided. There are forums available for both students and teachers to ask questions of other students, teachers, and The Biology Place faculty.
The website is easy to use and attractive. The Homepage provides for easy access to all areas within the website. The website is keep current and a synopsis of all new postings can be found in the WhatŐs New section. A Teaching Resources and Toolkit sections provide information for teachers to utilize the website more effectively. Students will enjoy the Weekly Riddle given each week. This is a pictorial puzzle that reveals only a portion of the picture each day.
