TITLE: A Week With Curious George

GRADE LEVEL: K-2

APPROPRIATE GROUP SIZE(S):

TIME REQUIRED: 30 min./day for 5 days

OBJECTIVES:

The students will learn to:

  1. Elaborate on the meaning of written text.
  2. Categorize information logically, and make predictions from what is read.
  3. Learn to work cooperatively in small groups.

INDIANA STATE LANGUAGE ARTS ESSENTIAL SKILLS & PROFICIENCIES:

MATERIALS and RESOURCES:

PREPARATION:

ACTIVITIES:

  1. Each day the teacher will read aloud a different Curious George book.
  2. Students will listen as the teacher reads each book, and will be ready to discuss the book.
  3. Students will be divided into small groups, and, each day, each group will be assigned a different activity center.

STUDENT ASSESSMENT:

  1. Listening Skills.
  2. Predicting what may happen as a book is being read.
  3. Participation in book discussions.
  4. .

  5. Drawing a picture about Curious George and writing about the picture.
  6. Constructive participation in the small group activities.
